I think it’s very annoying when ever I boot up and I’m prompted to remove my ‘old/unused’ shortcuts, so below I have outlined the steps to disable this feature as well as a visual tutorial. SSD's TBW limits n all if nothing else.Whenever you have mutiple shortcuts on your desktop (as I do) Windows sometimes suggests that you need to clean up your desktop because some shortcuts have not been used in over 60 days. Unfortunately I cant just set desktop as my default and let it rip, cause once in awhile I'll download a monster file and prefer to put that on a mechanical drive somewhere as opposed to download it to the desktop then move it over. You get no temp file and no file icon until you refresh. Somehow that breaks the icon generation at the end. ![]() ![]() When choosing the location for some reason it begins to download to your "default location" even before you choose it and as such makes a temp file. I found that if I dont try to choose the location and just auto set a location in the browser it'll work fine. The commenter here discusses its doing so Im much more versed with general pc use/maintenence/repair/etc than I am with programming unfortunately :(Īnyhow, it turns out its something to do with how chromium based browsers (practically all of them these days) handle downloading. Just the other day in fact due to an exe that was stuck with a blank icon. Unfortunately through my non-code based attempts at resolving the root of the problem ive cleared the icon cache already. And hope you solve your issue from the root. With all due respect to the guys that actually made an effort I think the solutions are no solutions at all. So far back it was affecting people on windows xp. Its not a new windows issue, its been around for years if you google it. This is pretty much my last ditch at solving it. Something that would detect writes/changes to the desktop and refresh it automagically (f5).Īnyone able to chime in on whether or not this is possible and if so, help out with a (hopefully) simple script? I'd love a way to automate this in the background but it goes above my paygrade. Unfortunately I prefer to download TO the desktop itself and the downloads just dont show up. I can even download to a folder ON the desktop fine. I can download to a different location fine. Turns out larger files (>50mb) seem to appear on the desktop properly but anything smaller (99% of downloaded files) do not appear on the desktop until a manual refresh is done either via right click > refresh or hitting F5. Each time I thought I solved it conventionally, no bueno. So i've battled this issue for about ever. ![]()
